Government of the Island
The Republic of Cyprus is a presidential republic, with the Palace situated in Nicosia, the capital. The President is elected every five years. After the invasion of the island by Turkey in the early seventies, the island was divided. The house of government currently has 59 members, elected each five years. On February 2008, the leader of the AKEL party was elected President of Cyprus, namely Dimitris Christofias. His predecessor was Tassos Papdopoulos from the Democratic Party.

To reach Cyprus, you can either travel by boat or plane. Frequent flights leaves from England and several other European countries to the Republic of Cyprus. The airport you will be flying to is named Ercan, but you will have to make a stop in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, since it is not recognized as a valid state.

The Cyprus winter is not very long and not cold at all, like in most countries like Russia where you almost freeze in Winter. The island's temperatures in winter averages on 17 degrees in the daytime. During this time, there is a little much needed rain and even a little amount of snow on the mountains in the beginning of the year. Autumn fills the air with aromas of fresh fruit and it is time for harvesting crops. Some say that this is the best season the visit Cyprus. Springtime unleashes a splendour of beauty and an array of colours. Flowers are blooming, daisies and anemones appear almost everywhere you look, a true feast for the eyes.
For the nature lovers it would be great news to hear that the Republic of Cyprus has no less that 1500 species of flowers on the island! Visitors enjoy this lavish greenery while having picnics, or simply while sunbathing on a majestic beach in the sun. Due to this great weather, almost always being a good temperature, the island practically has no infectious diseases, even furthermore reason to book a ticket the Cyprus today. During the year, a few dust storms do take place, but luckily wreaks no havoc whatsoever. In the Troodos Mountains the summer temperature is hot and in winter it is much colder in the mountains than on the island, making it ideal for seasonal skiing.
